Indymac Bank was really the testing ground for the modification portion of the Obama Housing Plan. In July of 2008 Indymac Bank was taken over by the FDIC after a sudden rush of withdrawals from scared depositors threatened their collapse. The Homeowner Rescue Alliance (HRA) team met with the company's leadership many times in 2008 and continued to stay connected through the FDIC takeover. As of March 2009 Indymac was in the process of closing on a deal that would return them to private ownership. Throughout all of the "activity" surrounding this company they've maintained the same presence as a mortgage servicing company so homeowners have been able to receive assistance - in fact, the FDIC was able to pilot modification strategies for over 10,000 homeowners in less than 8 months.
